The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has met with the leadership of the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) to deliberate on challenges facing the electrical contracting industry and explore collaborative solutions to improve safety and compliance.
During the meeting at the Ministry in Accra, GECA proposed that government adopt a policy mandating the use of only certified electrical contractors for all construction projects. According to the Association, such a policy would help ensure quality workmanship, enhance public safety, and promote adherence to professional standards.
In response, the Minister directed his team to develop a comprehensive roadmap to address the concerns raised by GECA. He noted that effective implementation of such measures could significantly reduce electrical fires and other hazards linked to poor wiring and the use of substandard materials.
The Ministry, he added, will continue to work closely with the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the Energy Commission, and GECA to strengthen regulation and improve standards across the electrical industry.
Hon. Jinapor commended GECA for its proactive engagement and commitment to professional excellence, emphasizing the government’s resolve to build a safer and more efficient electrical ecosystem for all Ghanaians.
