The Ministry of Energy has dismissed reports suggesting that the Government of Ghana intends to purchase Springfield Exploration and Production Limited, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.
In a statement issued by the communication directorate, the Ministry clarified that at no point has government—explicitly or implicitly—indicated any intention to acquire Springfield. It stressed that the state has only initiated a formal review process, which is being undertaken with full transparency and due diligence.
According to the Ministry, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the Petroleum Commission will engage both a Technical Consultant and an independent expert consultant to provide objective, data-driven assessments to guide the process. This, it said, is intended to ensure that any decision reached is based on robust technical and financial analysis.
“The government is committed to a transparent, objective, and evidence-based decision-making process,” the statement noted.
The Ministry further assured the public that the exercise will be conducted in line with the highest standards of accountability and that all final decisions will prioritize the long-term interests of the Ghanaian people.
