The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) has organized a three-day seminar to empower women within the corporation as part of activities to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026.
The seminar, held under the theme “Give to Gain,” brought together female staff of the corporation for mentorship, knowledge sharing, and discussions on leadership and professional development
The event featured presentations from several prominent speakers, including Marietta Brew, Emelia Arthur, Halimatu Sadia Abdulai Abu, and Fiona Frances Adjei Fordjour Oppong.
During their presentations, the speakers encouraged women at PHDC to view leadership not simply as a position but as a responsibility to uplift others. They stressed that when knowledge, opportunities, and encouragement are shared, the benefits extend beyond individuals to the entire organization.
Madam Marietta Brew urged the participants to build strong professional reputations grounded in integrity. According to her, women must guard their credibility and remain steadfast in their principles.
She also highlighted the importance of professional networking, noting that networks are not just about membership but about building meaningful relationships that can open doors to opportunities.
The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, acknowledged that women often face additional challenges in the workplace. However, she encouraged participants not to allow such barriers to limit their ambitions.
She emphasised that competence in the professional world is not defined by gender and urged women to believe in their abilities and confidently pursue leadership roles. She also advised women to support one another and avoid placing unrealistic expectations on themselves.
Sharing her personal journey, PHDC’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Finance and Administration, Halimatu Sadia Abdulai Abu, spoke about the challenges women sometimes encounter in corporate environments.
Drawing from her experiences, she encouraged participants to remain resilient in the face of obstacles and to challenge existing limitations as they pursue their career goals.
Participants expressed appreciation to the speakers for the mentorship and inspiration provided during the seminar, noting that the sessions had strengthened their confidence and determination to excel in their respective roles.
Officials say the initiative forms part of PHDC’s broader commitment to promoting inclusivity and empowering women within the organisation as it advances plans for Ghana’s petroleum hub project.
By investing in the growth and development of its female workforce, PHDC believes the success of Ghana’s petroleum hub will not only be measured by infrastructure and investment, but also by the strength of the people and leadership driving the vision forward.
