Distribution Company in Tamale as part of his #ResettingGhana Tour of the Northern Region, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving electricity supply across the country.
During the visit, President Mahama said many transformers currently in operation have become overstretched due to rising demand, explaining that equipment installed decades ago is now serving much larger populations, resulting in unstable power supply.
He expressed optimism about the future of Ghana’s energy sector, stating that plans to localise transformer production would help build domestic capacity and ensure long-term sustainability. He also commended NEDCo and Electricity Company of Ghana for their ongoing efforts to improve service delivery.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, said the government had entered the deployment stage of high-capacity transformers, with more units expected to be installed across the Northern operational area to reduce overloading and improve system stability.
According to him, although about 400 transformers were initially requested for the region, the government had approved the supply of 500 units to significantly strengthen power distribution and reliability. He appealed to the public to remain patient as installation works continue.
The intervention forms part of broader measures under the #ResettingGhana agenda aimed at modernising energy infrastructure and ensuring stable and efficient electricity supply nationwide.
