ACEP Convenes High-Level Ghana-Nigeria Talks on Climate Change and Sustainable Financing

The Africa Centre for Energy Policy convened a high-level policy discourse with the Nigerian Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs and members of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission – RMAFC, Members of Parliament of Ghana and representatives of relevant public institutions in Ghana and Nigeria to examine the economic and fiscal implications of climate change for Nigeria and Ghana, and explore how climate action can drive sustainable development and domestic resource mobilisation.

The dialogue explored comparative lessons on fiscal governance, revenue systems, and climate-responsive planning, while assessing opportunities in carbon finance, renewable energy deployment, and emerging climate funding mechanisms.

Discussions also focused on identifying priority legislative, policy, and institutional reforms needed to strengthen economic resilience and support a just energy transition. The discourse served as a platform for knowledge exchange and cooperation on climate-related economic governance.

The engagement deepened understanding of the economic, fiscal, and development implications of climate change, and generated practical policy recommendations to strengthen climate-responsive planning and sustainable financing frameworks.
