The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr. Toni Aubynn, on Thursday, April 9, 2026, commenced a series of high-level stakeholder engagements in the Western Region.
The meetings aimed to update key stakeholders on the timelines and the acquisition of land for the Petroleum Hub project, following a reduction in the project’s land size from the initial 20,000 acres to 12,300 acres (5,000 hectares).
Dr. Aubynn began the engagements with a courtesy call on the Western Regional House of Chiefs, where he briefed the respected chiefs on the planned reduction. He assured them that the downsizing would not adversely affect the project in any way.
He also disclosed that officials from the Lands Commission and PHDC would, from the following week, undertake a series of exercises within the Jomoro enclave.
The House of Chiefs, led by its President, Nana Kwabena Nketsia V, commended the government for the progress made so far and expressed hope that the latest decision would pave the way for the commencement of the project.
Dr. Aubynn and his delegation, which included the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations and Technical, Mr. Onasis Rosely, also paid a courtesy call on the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, to brief him on the progress.
Hon. Joseph Nelson described the Petroleum Hub project as one that can unlock the full economic potential of the Western Region. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the land acquisition process.
Dr. Aubynn concluded the first day of the three-day engagement by meeting with selected media houses in Sekondi-Takoradi. He explained in detail the reasons behind the reduction in land size and provided updated timelines for the land acquisition.
He is expected to continue the stakeholder engagements in the Jomoro Municipality, where he will call on the Paramount Chief of the Western Nzema Traditional Area, the Member of Parliament, the Municipal Chief Executive, and other key stakeholders in the area.
